#Linguistics Different Models of World Englishes

The literature shows that the term World Englishes was introduced by an Indian linguist Braj B. Kachru in 1985. The term get popularity when he presented his 3 concentric circle model of world Englishes. World Englishes can be defined as varieties of English language across the world, as we know today English has status of lingua Franca. So, people think that why don’t we have our own varieties of English language. These varieties are different from each other based on functional and formal features of World Englishes. There are many other factors like social and cultural elements also affect languages. As culture and language go side by side, these two things are inseparable. Similarly, now every country has its own English variety for example, Indian English, Pakistani English, Singaporean English, Nepali English and so on.

In this regard there are different scholars who have presented their models of World Englishes. Among them most important are given below;

1.     Strang’s Model 1970

2.     Tom Mc Arthur wheel Model 1887

3.     Manfred Gorlach’s circle model World Englishes 1988

4.     Kachru’s 3 circle model of World Englishes1888

5.     Schneider’s Dynamic Model of WorldEnglishes 2003
