English language policy in Asia
1. Japan: In japan English has been used since 1990. It is promoted by TEFL. Among all Asian countries, it is most resisting country due to conflict between globalization and Japanese identity. Youngers can use better form of English than that of older generation.
2. South Korean: Among Asian countries it is most accepting country of English language. For south Korean people English is passport toward international leadership. It is necessary for technological purposes because all the international communication happened in English. That’s why they give more value to English.
3. Malaysia: In 1983 to 1985, English medium schools have been replaced by Malay medium school for giving favor to Malay. But later, English was reinstituted as medium of instruction in schools.
4. Singapore: In Singapore English is treated as cultural capital. Both language and culture are mixed, not an issue of identity.
5. India: In India English has status of semi-official language. since it was British colony they are not accepting English due to their identity.
